The city was as busy as it always were. Shuffling through the crowd, Lazarus kept his head down and his profile low. He could only remember little of the time before he had died, as little as the face of the perpetrator, leaving Lazarus as a blank page. Thankfully, Apaths do absorb information the very instant they were conceived seemingly out of thin air. And with his rebirth, the Apath had taken up a new identity. However, there always seemed to be something missing from the very instant he had came back to life. His heart, his soul, he felt incomplete.
The laboratory incident was fresh news, having only been two days since his explosive escape. A nearby electronic billboard displayed the news; 'twenty-two casualties and seven injured after an Apath had conducted a breakout on a government owned research facility. The said Apath seemingly came back to life despite being initially confirmed to be deceased. More on this story at channel nine later on at six.' Lazarus clicked his tongue, obviously irritated by the news. He despised being reminded of his death.
On his hand, he held a folder containing detailed information on the research conducted by the humans to his body. With what he had read, it was made apparent that his heart was used for an experimental transplant to a gifted human's body. It was made clear to him after flipping through the thick document that the same person responsible for his death held his missing piece. And so his hunt begins.

It hadn't been a good week.
Ever since the explosion earlier in the week, Sony's adoptive father had been getting angry. He hadn't been directly involved- to Sony's knowledge, but with his position, clean up was part of his responsibility. She didn't know all the details herself. Why would she? She was just another little test- an experiment for them to eventually see if they could make use of her. Still... It bothered her to see the man who was legally her father going through hard times.
She was in the bustling streets, quietly glancing in front of her while walking. It was just a normal day. There was nothing to do but shuffle about her usual routine. Her eyes drifted up to the billboard above her head as it displayed the biggest news story of the week- maybe even the month. It was the same one causing her adoptive father such trouble. Sony's grip on her book bag strap grew tighter at the thought of it. However, a clicking sound drew her attention.
Sony found her eyes shifted to glance at an older man who was standing next to her in the crowd. He was looking through a folder, but it wasn't Sony's place to peer into it... Still her eyes drifted to it before she spoke bluntly in regards to the news story.
”Isn't it disgusting that a beast escaped like that?”

[attr="class","writing"] "A beast," exclaimed a girl from not so far away, lips parted and eyes looking over Sony as if she were some kind of oddity. "Sure nobody likes what the apaths do, but if you were locked up in a lab you'd want to high tail it out of there too. If it's for the sake of survival, you can't really place blame on anybody for anything. And lets be honest, there was probably so much cutting and prodding and testing going on down there that even the kindest of people would surely snap." [break][break] The girl paused, read over the billboard again, then tipped her eyes back towards the pair of strangers. "I guess that's a pretty unpopular opinion....And in all fairness I can't exactly vouch for the moral code or decency of an apath, given I've never actually met one. But it's kind of horrible to get mad at somebody for wanting to live, don'tcha think?" [break][break]Again she went quiet, only this time it seemed to be for good. The girl had said her piece. Still, her eyes continued to probe Sony's facial features as if waiting for some kind of response, then offered that same stare to the man nearby. Honestly though, Leilani wasn't expecting too much. It wasn't exactly making pleasant conversation after all, and it was certainly a strange foot to start on. Still, both of the strangers before her looked almost agonizingly gloomy, and chatting someone up is always a good start to pulling them out of a funk.

Of all the people to be spoken to by a stranger, he was the unfortunate one. And of all the topics, it had to be the one thing specifically aimed towards him. Not that anyone would've known it was he who had broken out of the laboratory, not that anyone would've known... yet.
"A beast." He repeated. Lazarus took no offense with what the female human had implied. There was nothing to be argue about, they were, in fact, beasts programmed to wreck havoc. Lazarus kept his callous expression on his face. Just as he was about to reply, another seemed to have taken interest with the conversational topic at hand.
An Apath sympathizer, a rare one indeed. Or perhaps she was an Apath herself? But it was highly unlikely, he would've felt the negativity and the same earthy smell he had accustomed to if it were true. He kept the folder hidden inside his coat to be safe, just in case they would've been able to identify APF's seal.
"Both of you speak the truth." He stated before turning towards the one with the shorter hair. "However, you do seem to forget the fact that these beasts would have been nothing if not for the sins committed by men. Do they not teach how you on schools how Apaths come to be?" It's true, before completely trashing the lab, he had gather every bit of information there was to be known. He might just be the most well informed Apath to ever live, or rather, relive. "Doesn't that make you ask? Who's the real beast here?"

Sony's eyes shifted to the girl with various hair colors. Her lips pursed together in distaste- as if someone had just brought forth a rotten egg and the stench had reached her nostrils. She sighed softly, as if pitying the other girl. Sony could recognize that hair from a mile away. They weren't in the same class, but this was a schoolmate. ”Apaths are a cancer. They don't feel or deserve pity. They exist only to destroy and promote the suffering of others. They are incapable of remorse, pity or understanding. The only reason they want to escape the prisons we place them in is because their ability to spread suffering is limited within them.”
”Idiots who mistake them for normal people that can be saved- or even rehabilitated... Maybe you should have been one of several killed during their escape. Perhaps then your words wouldn't be spreading such mind numbingly naive ideologies... What if the relative of one of the ones killed by an Apath heard your words? Do you think you're doing anyone a favor by trying to understand what has no rational and only a hunger for suffering?”
”You yourself just said you have never met an Apath. Don't speak about things you know nothing about.”
Her eyes shifted back to the man as he spoke. Sony shrugged before closing her eyes. The girl was clearly use to public speaking. ”There is a school of thought that Apaths are the latest form of Darwinism. Those too weak to resist them or helping form them are killed inevitably. Furthermore, those who attempt to kill the Apaths and are too weak are also killed off. Thus, that leaves the ESPers who are most brutally gifted with the ability to destroy them as the new model for the human of tomorrow.”
”Apaths are only the result of weakness, and we are very much in the process of eradicating that.”

[attr="class","smallface"]
[attr="class","overan"]
[attr="class","writing"] "Haaaah??? I never said Apaths were good guys. It's not like I'm saying we should all be buddy buddy. If apaths are really as bad as the news is always saying, then yeah they're still a problem. I'm just saying that in this particular case, I don't blame the apath for wanting to run away. Besides...." Leilani leaned onto Sony's shoulder as if it were the most natural thing in the world, a sigh escaping her lips. "You can't ever eliminate weakness. You can hide it, sure. And you can do temporary fixes. But if you get rid of one weakness, another is just going to take its place. If there's no weakness, there's not really any humanity. Because even human emotions can become weakness in the right situation, and if you eradicate those we're just zombies kind of muddling about." [break][break] The girl grinned just then, before poking the other girl in the forehead. "It's what Mister Doom and Gloom over here said. But this is a really heavy topic, huh? You're both really passionate about this, aren't you? Er, at least she is...We should talk about something more cheerful! Or, at the very least, continue this in a cafe somewhere. We're kind of blocking up the sidewalk now." [break][break] Leilani removed her chin from the other girl to cast a glance over her shoulder. There were all kinds of strangers swinging wide circles, trying to push through the small spaces still open. She always did dislike large groups clogging up traffic....Next her mismatch eyes starting scanning the streets for some place they could duck into. Nothing piqued her interest on this particular corner, but... "If you two are up for a chat, where uh....where's a good place to go? I actually just moved here, so I have no idea where anything is."
