The pink haired girl turned her head backwards to cast a glance at the cat clock hanging on the back of the restaurant wall. 8:15. It was about time for her to close up the shop; customer had slowed down at around 7:30. She did have school work to do, but she didn’t do it most of the time. After she finished wiping down the tables, Mai walked into the kitchen and began washing away at the bowls and plates. She knew she could’ve been doing homework, and it was always going to be that thing nagging at the back of her mind, but she knew where her own priorities were and wasn’t willing to give them up. For 8 years she trained to make her dreams come true and she was finally on her way there. Her eyebrows furrowed at the thought of how much she had given up for this, her movements becoming harsher. No friends, no decent grades, no father, not even a full house. Mai pushed her glasses up on the bridge of her nose using her shoulder as she continued scrubbing away. It’s all my fault, because of this stupid dream. She slammed the last bowl onto the drying rack.
Hands against the counter and leaning forward slightly, she sighed outwardly. “It’s about time for you to close the shop now, Mai!” The feeble voice of her grandma called from upstairs. It was like a reminder. “I will, nana!”
Mai wiped her hands down on her red and white dotted apron, walking to the front of the restaurant. I should be happy. A small look of dejection was settled on her face as she looked around the almost empty room. The last few customers began leaving with smiles on their face which Mai returned. She picked up the ‘closed/open for business!’ sign and stuck it onto the window.
[attr="class","nalyrics"]Pardon me just dropping in.
[attr="class","nabody"]Despite his calm and collected nature, Kite was not exactly the most graceful.
The boy blazed through the streets—literally blazed through the streets as he attempted to duel his opponent. An Apath. The boy was tasked to apprehend the rogue and intended on nothing more. It was his duty, after all. The battle itself was not entirely widespread, however the regions it did affect were cleared and most civilians were out of harms way.
Kite's right hand carried a strange red sword. The weapon's design itself was quite unconventional; sporting a blunt, square blade along with a small handguard built within the weapon itself. Screw-like holes similar to exhaust ports were dotted along the weapon in various locations. The boy carried this weapon in a reverse-grip style, almost as if he was carrying an instrument case.
The body of Kite's blade began to glow as he sent forward a wave of flames at his enemy—which was easily avoided. Perspiration began to build at the boy's forehead from both the heat of his Artes and the tension of the battle. The Apath he fought at that moment was not unlike any he had fought before, and was in fact far less proficient in the use of his power than most.
"Why?" Kite began to ask himself this. "Why cant I beat him?"
The young Esper darted forward with great speed, leaving nothing but ash and embers behind him. He raised his blade up in front of him, laying one side against his forearm as to protect him from any blows. Kite then twisted the left side of his body back; his sword now touching the ground. The weapon quickly became engulfed in flames as the young man stopped just in front of the Apath, releasing a barrage of flames right in his face. An explosion culminated just beneath Kite's feet, launching him into the air at an even greater velocity than before. Seemingly using the flames as a distraction, Kite aimed to slam his sword right upon the Apath's head. This attack was mainly to incapacitate the Apath and get the battle over with, rather than damage him.
"I got him now!" The boy thought to himself with full assurance. Kite believed for a fact that there was no way this Apath could intercept this attack.
Suddenly, Kite could feel a blunt force slam deep into his diaphragm as he was propelled into the air, soaring straight through a nearby establishment's window. The blue-haired boy found himself on the ground of this establishment, attempting to rise up just as he saw a girl right next to the window that he had made his grand entrance through. Unable to breathe, Kite gave way to the shock of the attack and had passed out on the ground.

Just as she had firmly stuck the sign up, the window next to Mai was shattered and a boy flew through it and slammed into the floor next to her. Her breath caught in her throat as the blue haired boy passed out, silence hung heavy in the air before she realised what had just happened.
Mai swiftly knelt down beside him, her hands on his shoulders as she shook him a bit. He looked to be around her age, but she played it safe by addressing him formally. “S-Sir!” She rushed over the glass carefully and moved behind him, carefully trying to shift his bruised body into her arms before she groaned at how weak she was. After several attempts at carrying the damaged boy, she ended up having to drag him up to her room.
Setting him down on her bed, she looked around at his body and observed his wounds. He didn’t have any serious lacerations or deep bruising, but there was a little blood on him. Mai scrambled into her bathroom and grabbed two towels (both wetted), tweezers, alcohol wipes, and bandages before she hurried back towards him. The girl folded a towel and lifted his light blue hair up and placed it on his forehead, her brow furrowing as she ended up clipping his fringe back. This stranger had to bust into her store and be injured. My windows.. Mai inwardly sighed as she had begun to use the tweezers to pull out shards of glass from his skin. It’s going to cost so much money- not to mention, Nana will be so upset with me! After picking out several bits, she used the alcohol wipes to swipe the cuts over and placed bandaids over his arms and cheek.
After she had turned on the air conditioning, she elevated his legs by placing a stuffed animal under them and covered his body with a lightweight blanket. Why did he even fly through the window anyways? Mai let her thoughts go off on a tangent as she walked back downstairs and swept up the glass that was all over her restaurant floors with a slightly annoyed expression. She mumbled a bit under her breath, dumping the glass pieces into the garbage can. “Stupid handsome stranger… stupid windows… stupid money…”
Having made a bowl of hot chicken soup, the petite girl walked back up the stairs and back into her room where it was slightly colder (a pleasant cold) and set the bowl on the nightstand next to him. She began to clean up her room and tidy the stationery on her desk- waiting for the teenager to wake up.
