An Arte consists of a name, the type, the level, the bonus that is granted upon activation, what it does (Active Artes only), and the cost to use it. All Artes may only last for one post. Here is an example of two abilities, one passive and one active, and how they should be formatted.
Focus (Passive Arte, Level 1, Costs 15 VIB) - Soran gains +5 WIS for one post.
As you can see, the above ability shows the name (Focus), the type (Passive), the Level (Level 1), the cost (Costs 15 VIB), and what it does (Buffs Soran by +5 WIS).
Now for an active ability.
Heavy Strike (Active Arte, Level 5, Costs 40 VIB) - Soran uses all of his strength to lunge forth and deliver a powerful attack to his opponent, gaining +35 PTN during the attack.
You can see all the previous elements before such as the name, type, level, and the cost. However this time around you can see that “Soran” performs a specific action when this Arte is in use. An Active Arte requires a specific action while a Passive Arte allows you to do whatever while retaining the bonus.
Remember that buffs and bonuses do not apply to the same stats and do not stack. If you activate two different abilities that buff the same stat then only the stronger buff of the two will be active. However, you may still buff two separate stats in the same post.
PASSIVE ARTES LEVELS
ACTIVE ARTES LEVELS
Active MELEE Artes, such as a simple power boost with a strike or the creation of a weapon deal 100% PTN damage.
Active RANGED Artes, such as an energy blast or the creation of a ranged weapon deals 75% PTN damage while the projectile travels at the speed of your base PTN. Alternatively, you can deliver a more powerful projectile at 100% PTN, however it will travel at 75% of your base PTN.
Active AREA OF AFFECT Artes, such as a field or blast that expels from all around the character deals 75% in PTN damage if close to the center of the blast, or 50% if caught in its outer region or extremity.
(Note: Teleportation, Flight, Stunning, Shields, and the like are all unfortunately off-limits as Artes as we do not exactly understand how to balance them.)
